One day a young traveler came to the banks of a wide and deep river. There was no way to cross and he walked along the edge of the water for miles, feeling hopeless.

Just as he was about to give up and go back the way he had come, he saw a wise Zen Master on the opposite bank of the river. The young traveler called to the Master, “Oh great teacher, can you tell me how to get to the other side of this river?”

The Zen Master stood for a moment, silently watching the rushing stream and then yelled to the traveler: “My friend - you are on the other side!"
